The torch of the Statue of Liberty has always been symbolic of coming to America. It represents the promise of freedom and liberty within the American Dream. In this design, a wilting rose replaces the flame of the torch. It is the loss of love and hope in the American Dream that comes when the rose colored glasses come off. For marginalized communities, the American Dream is anything but a dream.
